No longer green, but russet and brown,
The autumnal leaves come tumbling down.
A foot-crunchy carpet to speak out the season:
My dog friend and I tread what we find pleasing.
The birds have flown south: their song has now ceased;
The quiet they leave is the silence of peace.
We head to the park – my dog gets excited;
He knows where we’re going: and he’s just delighted!
This is the best season of the whole year,
In all that we see, and touch, smell and hear.
It seems things are dying, and are no longer seen –
But this is the prelude to the next year’s new scene.
Autumn is beautiful, like no other time:
All of our senses feel this special clime.
There’s nothing quite like it, It has its own ‘feel’
And the best part of all is that it is just so real!
No longer so wild, but tamer and quiet:
No ducks in the pond when pooch and I pass by it.
The sky is now darker than ‘twas not long ago
And soon it will be time for hail, sleet and snow.
It is like life has paused, now waiting awhile
Before spring arrives, and the sun again smiles.
And yet, a squirrel still forages near
While in the distance a few birds I can hear.
This is the time I always enjoy best:
In sights, feel, smells, sound – and all of the rest.
It looks like a dead world, but no it’s just snoozing,
And before too much longer, it’ll all be renewing.
Autumn is wonderful, every single year.
The sound is so tranquil; the air is so clear!
There’s no time that’s better – its feel is unique
And even my dog finds new scents he can seek.
Autumn has come, it exists here and now!
The summer has gone, no leaves dress each bough.
The trees are so bare, you can see through them all.
And this is the season that some folk call ‘Fall’ !.
